There are two popular theories as it pertains to Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos fighting for a third time. Some people are calling this the deciding match, the one that will determine both men’s legacies. If either one loses, because each has a victory over the other, supposedly they’ll be out of the title picture until the winner loses his belt to someone else. And seeing as Velasquez and Dos Santos are far and away the best heavyweights on the planet, that wait may prove to be longer than expected.
Other people are saying that this is the third of what could be six or seven battles between these two. While that sounds like a lot, it kind of isn’t given the circumstances. Again, when people say that Velasquez and Dos Santos are the best heavyweights on the planet, that’s not an exaggeration. There’s no one in their class – at all. The third best heavyweight in the world, Fabrício Werdum, look awful against Big Nog. Sure he won, but it wasn’t pretty. Who else is there at heavyweight? Josh Barnett, maybe. But that’s it.
Unless someone comes in and takes the heavyweight division by storm, which is unlikely, Velsaquez and Dos Santos will have to meet again – whether folks like it or not.
