The main event and co-main event of UFC 165 weren’t supposed to be competitive. For all the talk about how he’s just an interim champion, Renan Barao has been as dominant a fighter as any that has ever fought in the UFC’s bantamweight division. Along the same lines, to date, Jon Jones had never been tested. The competitive showdowns were supposed to come early in the card, and the displays of undisputable brilliance were supposed to come up at the top.
That theory ended up being halfway true. Whereas Jones was challenged from start to finish, after a first round that he probably lost, Barao stopped playing around and decided to put his opponent out for good.
