UFC 155 Round-by-Round Review: Michael Johnson vs. Myles Jury


We open up the FX prelims with a lightweight contest between a pair of former Ultimate Fighter competitors, as Michael Johnson (12-6) takes on Myles Jury (10-0). The referee will be Herb Dean.

Round 1: Johnson is looking to complete 2012 4-0, while Jury brings an undefeated record into the match. Johnson with a nice left hook, as he catches a kick and unloads with another left. Jury shoots and gets the takedown, working half-guard before taking the back. Jury with some nice lefts to the open face of Johnson. More ground-and-pound by Jury, as he is unloading on Johnson. Elbow connects to the head of Johnson as the ref looks in on the situation. Johnson able to get to his back, as Jury goes to side control. Jury with 31 landed ground strikes, and adds to that total with more punishment. Jury with a nice knee to the body, and an elbow to the face. Jury to the mount and he lands more blows to the face before working for a rear-naked choke as the round ends.

Round 2: Jury with a plus-44 advantage in significant strikes landed in the first. Johnson just misses a left jab, as Jury is into the second round for the first time in his pro MMA career.Head-kick lands by Jury, as Johnson looking to switch levels and strike. Kick to the leg by Jury lands. Jury grabs a leg and gets another takedown, looking to do more damage like the first. Jury postures up and tries to land a big blow, but is unable to. Pair of short elbows connect by Jury with just over a minute to go. Jury kinda mini-slams Johnson back to the mat, postures up again and lands a left elbow to the face.

Round 3: Johnson comes right out, knowing he is well behind on the scorecards after 10 minutes. Big right by Johnson, who fends off a takedown attempt by Jury. However, Jury works Johnson to the fence and executes a nice trip-takedown and is back on top, in control. Side control for Jury, who is looking to trap an arm. Jury gives up on that and moves to a more controlling position with three minutes to go. Another pair of nasty elbows to the face of Johnson by Jury, who moves to the back and is unloading again, looking for a possible rear-naked choke with two minutes to go. A complete performance by Jury, who did everything but finish Johnson.
