UFC 153 Round-by-Round Review: Demian Maia vs. Rick Story
We kick-start the main card with welterweights Demian Maia (16-4) and Rick Story (14-5). The referee will be Mario Yamasaki.
Round 1: Story lands a big left hook and Maia goes for the takedown, getting it thanks to a single-leg. Maia working Story now, tripping him back to the mat. This is Maia's second fight at welterweight after moving down from middleweight where he was a former contender to the UFC title. Story works back up, but Maia takes him to the mat with ease, taking the back this time and locking a second hook in on Story.
Maia pounding the face to soften Story up, bringing the right arm around his face. Maia gets it around the face, cranking the neck extremely hard, forcing the tap and his first submission victory since 2009. Blood spurted out of the nose of Story as Maia squeezed on his head.
Demian Maia def. Rick Story via submission (neck-crank) at 2:30 of Round 1
