UFC 118 Adds Randy Couture vs. James Toney

UFC 118 is shaping up to be an event that will be most appealing to MMA fans. Frankie Edgar will have his lightweight title rematch with BJ Penn. Now, it has been confirmed that Randy Couture will fight James Toney, former boxing world champion, and the fight has been tagged as the co-main event for the organization’s first visit to Boston.

Another great fight is set for the August 28 event as Kenny Florian and Gray Maynard will square off for the lightweight No.1 contender spot.

But the Couture vs. Toney is sure to be the main draw. The fight will showcase an MMA legend with a world class boxing legend. Toney is hoping to prove that the sport of boxing will show it’s dominance in a sport that features mixed martial arts with a tenacious ground game. UFC president Dana White is sure this will be a draw that everyone will want to see.

“Toney is a real fighter, a future Hall of Famer, and the most accomplished boxer ever to fight in the UFC, and I think everyone’s curious to see what he can do against Couture’s wrestling and ground and pound attack,” White said. “Toney promised me that he’s coming to win, and knowing him like I do, I would never count him out.”

In the other co-main event, Penn will look to overcome a shocking five round defeat handed to him by Edgar, the new champion, at UFC 112. Prior to their previous fight, Penn had not lost a lightweight bout in eight years. He did not appear to be at his best during the loss to Edgar and will try to find a way to get back his crown from his opponent who has only one loss in his 13 career bouts.

“Frankie fought a great fight the first time and I’m expecting him to come back at me just as hard in this rematch,” said Penn. “But I’m more determined than ever, and I hope he’s ready for me because I just have one goal in mind – getting my belt back.”

Couture is listed as the favorite in his fight with Toney and has his moneyline set at -575 according to MMA sportsbooks. In the Penn vs. Edgar bout, Penn will enter the fight favored with a moneyline set at -340.

The Florian-Maynard fight will depict who will face the winner of Edgar-Penn. Maynard is the only person to beat the reigning champion, but will enter the fight as the underdog against Florian with a moneyline set at +110, while Florian’s is at -140.
