Tracy McGrady seems like he’s in a midlife crisis of sorts.
After being let go by the Spurs before last season, he said he was done with the NBA. He then embarked on a brief, but very entertaining, minor league baseball career. And now, according to a Yahoo Sports report, he may be interested in making an NBA return.
McGrady told Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski that he’s been working out with Kobe Bryant this summer as he mulls a possible NBA comeback.
“Yes, I was working out with K.B. to get in shape and see how my body feels," McGrady said in an email.
Even if he decides to throw his hat in the NBA free agent ring, McGrady won’t be in any NBA training camp. He’s contractually obligated to a basketball tour in China in October. According to Wojnarowski, McGrady is still a massively popular athlete in China.
McGrady says an NBA comeback hinges on how he feels after the China tour.
"The comeback will not happen, unless I have the drive whenever I get back," he said.
McGrady’s last NBA action came as a member of the Spurs in the 2012-2013 season. He was scarcely used by the team. His last signifigant NBA playing time came in the 2011-2012 season, when he averaged 11 points per game for the Hawks.
Chances are that even if McGrady wants to come back, he'll draw little to no interest on the free agent market. He’s about seven years past his prime. Still, it will always be fun to watch old highlight reels like this:
