Tottenham and Liverpool met in an important EPL match on Monday evening at Anfield. Tottenham needing to keep pace with the two frontrunners Man City and Man United. Liverpool desperately trying to claw their way into the top four and a Champions League place.
What was produced was very little offense for over an hour. Things got more lively when Liverpool introduced Luis Suarez to the game. Suarez had been suspended for the previous 8 matches. The game jumped to life as both sides missed chances in the final 20 minutes.
The best fell to Gareth Bale who found himself in alone with just minutes to play, but Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina turned the shot aside. On the other end Liverpool narrowly missed as Charlie Adam hit sidenetting and Andy Carroll watched a header slide just wide. The best Liverpool chance came from a close range Suarez header that went straight to Brad Freidel.
It ended scoreless though as both teams claimed a point. Tottenham will definitely be the happier of the two squads as a point on the road at Anfield is not a bad result. They were organized defensively and stay in the chase as they now trail Man City by 7 points for the EPL lead and trail Man United by 5 points for 2nd place. They have only lost once in their last 22 matches.
Liverpool needed the three points much more dearly as they remain in 7th place trailing Arsenal by a point and Newcastle by 3 points. With the daunting trip to Manchester United this next weekend, Liverpool could find themselves in a bad spot heading into the final third of the season.
