Holocaust jokes usually don't work, something Tiki Barber is finding out right about now.
The former New York Giants running back and former NBC "Weekend Today" host is attempting a comeback in the NFL this season (if there is an NFL season). So Sports Illustrated decided to check in and do an article about him.
When they got to the part of Barber's tale about how he left his pregnant wife for a gorgeous young intern, Barber talked about how they had to move into the house of his agent, Mark Lepselter, to escape the media glare. He said he and girlfriend Traci Johnson hid out in the attic.
"Lep's Jewish," said Barber, "and it was like a reverse Anne Frank thing."
Anne Frank, of course, hid with her family and others in the attic of a house in Amsterdam until the Nazi's found and executed most of them, all chronicled in her famous diary.
Sports Illustrated did add this about the comment:
(Here is Barber writ small: He has the wit and smarts to make an Anne Frank allusion and the artlessness to liken himself -- an adulterer trying to elude gossip columnists -- to a Holocaust victim.)
