This Wednesday night, the much anticipated 13th installment of The Ultimate Fighter reality show premieres on Spike TV. The coaches this season are two heavyweight stars, one looking for his first shot at gold and the other aiming to earn a rematch for the title he lost just five months ago.
Junior dos Santos has been rising to the top of the UFC’s heavyweight division since 2008. Over the years, he has steamrolled every opponent put in his path. Dos Santos is undefeated inside the Octagon and is looking forward to the possibility of beating his opponent not only on the show, but in the cage at UFC 131.
Coaching opposite dos Santos will be the former UFC Heavyweight Champion, Brock Lesnar. Back in October, Lesnar lost his title to current champion Cain Velasquez. Following the loss, the opportunity arose for the former WWE star to earn a shot at the man that defeated him for the championship. The catch, being a coach against dos Santos on TUF. Although Lesnar was not open to the thought at first, he would eventually accept and will now help mold the new batch of fighters this season.
For the first time since the shows 9th season, the only weight class to be competing will be welterweights. Unlike past seasons, the cast this season will only be 14 fighters, however, the “wild card” selections will continue to be featured.
The coaches will face off this June at UFC 131 and the winner will move on to face Cain Velasquez later this year when he returns from injury.
