NFL: Thanksgiving Football and the New York Jets

You yell at the TV when you watch football don't you; even when you are alone. Whether your favorite team is good or bad, football is made for complaining. Players complain, coaches complain and fans complain too.

Some of you are lucky enough to root for college or pro teams that have storied histories. You may have remembrances of Super Bowls, National Championships and ticker-tape parades. If you are one of the lucky ones, you probably remember exactly where you were when your team took it all. You may even have multiple memories.

Well I'm a Jets fan; as big as they come. On January 12, 1969 when the New York Jets won Super Bowl III, I was about 19 months old, so my remembrances of "the event" are the game film. The only thing I really have to hold onto is Sunday afternoons and the hope that someday "our time will come."

Recently I ran into John and Jane, two Jets fans who's household, much like mine, revolves around the fortunes of the New York Jets. I found that their lives were very much like mine. They rehash and analyze every play call. They break down the execution of every player's responsibility on every play. No matter what happens they are never happy. Even when the Jets win, they are skeptical.

John and Jane have been kind enough to let us into their home each week, it's sort of like watching Jets fan reality TV. We'll check back with them each were from here on out during the rest of the season and see what they are up to.

Last week the Jets were in complete control of the games against the Houston Texans until Shonn Greene fumbled and the defense caved in. The game ended with another miraculous victory for the Jets, the likes not often seen in the NFL.

When we last left our enigmatic Jets couple they were stressed out after two exhilarating overtime wins over the Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns. It now appears as if the stress of last weeks victory over Houston is just about to put them over the edge. In this episode Jane attempts to enjoy the holiday as they get ready for some Thanksgiving Day Football against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Eighteen and over only please as John and Jane have a tendency to "let it fly" when they get emotional about their Jets. - Mike Cardano
