TCU Leaps Ahead of FSU For Third Spot In College Football Rankings

TCU jumped from fifth to third in the newest College Football. The Horned Frogs leaped over Mississippi State and Florida State after beating Texas 48-10 in Austin.

Alabama remains at number one with Oregon at number two. TCU and Florida State round up the top four. Ohio State and Baylor sit on the outside looking in for the college football playoffs, sitting at number five and six, respectively.

Florida State won their game against Florida 24-19 Saturday, but winning their 12th straight game this season and remaining the only undefeated team in the nation wasn’t enough to stay ahead of TCU.

"I don't worry about it," FSU coach Jimbo Fisher said. "We go play Georgia Tech. We take care of business, we'll be fine.”

The Ducks and Arizona (7) square up in the Pac-12 championship game Friday. The Seminoles face Georgia Tech (11) in the Dr. Pepper ACC Championship game and Alabama plays Missouri (16) in the SEC Championship game. Both games are on Saturday.

The Big 12 Conference does not have a championship game, so TCU hosts Iowa State—with a record of 2-9—and Baylor hosts Kansas State (9) on Saturday.

The dilemma is that Baylor beat TCU earlier in the season and they both have the same record, yet the Bears are two spots behind the Horned Frogs and outside the playoffs right now. The playoff committee gave a few reasons for TCU being ahead. One of the bigger reasons being that TCU’s only loss came to a tough Baylor opponent, while Baylor’s only loss came to a 7-5 West Virginia.

These rankings are the last rankings before the playoffs committee’s final decision on the four top teams that will participate in the first ever College Football Playoffs. The final decision will be released Sunday night.
