Table tennis player Zhang Jike was victorious in the Liebherr Men’s World Cup on Sunday in Dusseldorf, Germany, but lost the prize money because of his wild celebration.
After Jike upset top seed Ma Long, he smashed a sign, kicked two restraining barriers and took off his shirt at the ISS Dome (video below), noted USA Today.
As a result, he lost $45,000 in prize money.
"I am very sorry for what I did," Jike told Ittf.com. “It was not acceptable behavior and I am sorry."
“This was a perfect victory, I have been under a great deal of pressure, with people questioning my form," added Jike. “I am now very satisfied and very relieved, I would like to congratulate Ma Long on an amazing final, we really put on a table tennis exhibition. “
