Suspended Jags Receiver Justin Blackmon Arrested For Marijuana Possession

Troubled Jaguars receiver Justin Blackmon just can’t seem to stay out of trouble. Blackmon, already suspended indefinitely by the NFL for numerous violations of the league’s substance abuse policy, was arrested and charged with marijuana possession on Wednesday night.

Oklahoma 6 News first reported the arrest. Blackmon was initially pulled over for a traffic violation, but a police officer smelled weed in his car and found a blunt after a search. He was arrested on the spot and has since been released after posting bail.

According to police, Blackmon openly admitted he had marijuana on him.

"He did go ahead and admit that there was marijuana in the vehicle," said Edmond Police Department spokesperson Jenny Monroe. " … Mr. Blackmon said he had been smoking a blunt marijuana (marijuana cigar) while he was driving and that there was another full blunt within the car in a box, and that's exactly what our officer's found in the vehicle."

Blackmon’s latest offense is potentially career-ending. He is already indefinitely suspended by the NFL for violating the league’s substance abuse policy three times. The league could refuse to ever lift that suspension after this offense, though something like a multiyear suspension is more likely.

Either way, this is sad news for a young player with immense talent. After two All-American seasons at Oklahoma State, Blackmon was a star as a rookie in 2012 and hauled in 65 catches in 14 starts for the Jaguars. In his only four games last year, Blackmon averaged over seven catches per game.

Like Browns receiver Josh Gordon, Blackmon’s off the field problems may cut what could have been a spectacular career short.

The Jaguars have no plans of releasing Blackmon as of now.

"We want to keep him as a player," Khan told the Florida Times-Union today. "He's not a part of the team now, obviously, but it's very important for him to get the help. It's the most important thing."
