Sherman Pendergarst Loses Battle with Cancer

Publish date:

Sherman Pendergarst, who lost in his lone UFC fight to Antoni Hardonk at UFC 65, passed away Friday morning after a two-year battle with rectal and colon cancer. Pendergarst was 45 years old.

Pendergarst actually competed just five months ago despite battling cancer. He finished with a record of 11-18.

Known as "The Tank," Pendergarst trained with current Strikeforce commentator Pat Miletich. He competed at both light heavyweight and heavyweight.

"Sherman Pendergarst passed away from his battle with cancer. Anyone who knew his spirit knows it's traveling north now. Love ya buddy," Miletich posted on Twitter. "The world judges us on accomplishments, but God judges us on love. Sherman was right with the man."
