Shanon Slack Links Up with Bellator

Bellator announced this week the signing of featherweight fighter Shanon Slack, a former U.S. Olympic wrestling alternate.

Currently serving as a coach on Team Cruz during this season of The Ultimate Fighter, Slack is a collegiate wrestling standout with a 3-0 record as a professional mixed martial artist. He's scheduled to face Booker Arthur at Bellator 69 next week in a fight that the 28-year-old is hoping will kick off a run at the title.

"The Bellator featherweight division is tough as hell, and it was a huge reason why I decided to join Bellator," Slack said (via MMAWeekly). "The tournament format is something that really stood out to me as well. There aren't any politics involved, and like any fighter, I want my title shot. Any fighter can say they want to take things one fight at a time, but if you aren't in this to become a champion, then you're in the wrong sport."

Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney is also setting a high bar for Slack, based on the success that other fighters with similar wrestling backgrounds have been met with in the promotion.

"When you look at the roster, you've seen former wrestlers have an incredible amount of success with Bellator," said Rebney. "Michael Chandler, Ben Askren, and Cole Konrad have all earned titles with a core wrestling base, and Shanon brings that same pedigree into the organization."

Bellator 69 is scheduled to take place on May 18 at the L'Auberge Casino Resort in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
