Shane Carwin Cleared for Contact, Looking Forward to Fighting Again Soon

Publish date:

It has been nearly one year since the last time we saw former UFC heavyweight contender Shane Carwin grace the octagon. The last time we saw him fight was at UFC 131, where he was bloodied up by current heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos.

On Wednesday, Shane Carwin announced via his that he was cleared for contact and when he makes his return you will see a much different fighter.

No one ever “wants” or “needs” back surgery but I did “need” the time to improve my skills. Being a good wrestler with heavy hands is only a fraction of skills needed to become a World Champion. I am certain when I come back you will see a more diverse and hungry fighter.

Carwin (12-2) began his career winning an impressive 12 in a row. At UFC 111 he defeated Frank Mir to win the interim heavyweight title, unfortunately the tides turned at UFC 116 when he fought Brock Lesnar to unify the titles. Lesnar defeated Carwin by arm-triangle choke in the second round. He then lost his next fight, as mentioned above, to Junior dos Santos at UFC 131 by a bloody unanimous decision.

He mentioned he would like to return in the fall of this year, however no names were mentioned.

I informed UFC Matchmaker (Joe Silva) that I would like to fight in Early Fall 2012. I would like to be able to fight every three or four months. Barring injury I intend to leave the UFC octagon and head back to the Grudge Training Center to continue the climb. I have spent my entire career dealing with injuries sustained through Football. I am 100% and I feel like a younger version of my former self. The UFC should look into adding some padding in the gloves because I plan on crushing my opponents.

Make sure to check out for all the latest on Carwin’s return to the octagon.
