NCAA Basketball Selection Sunday: Louisville Likely to Get 3/4 Seed

Despite the disappointment of not winning the Big East tournament, it’s important to not let that take away from the season this Louisville team had. If asked at the beginning of the season, I doubt anyone in their right mind would have been upset with a 12-6 Big East record and a trip to the conference tournament final. Personally, I was upset last night, but today, I’m extremely pleased with this season and am now focusing on the NCAA tournament.

As I write this, we are about four hours away from the official releasing of the brackets. The consensus amongst the credible bracket projection sites have the Cards on the 3/4 line. The top two bracket sites we pay attention to are and of course, everyone’s favorite dork, Joe Lunardi. As of right now, Bracketography has Louisville as a 3 seed, while Lunardi has them at a 4.

In Lunardi’s prognostication, the Cards would be placed in the Southwest region and face off with 13th seeded Bucknell in Tucson. The winner would face off against the winner of Xavier(5) and Penn State (12). The top seed in this region would be Kansas, followed by North Carolina on the 2 line, then Kentucky at 3, who would square off with Morehead State if Lunardi is on the money.

According to Bracketography, the Cards will earn a 3 seed and also play in the Southwest region. However, if they earn a 3 in this region, they would open play in Tampa against Wofford. If they were to win, they would face the winner of Xavier (6) and Michigan State (11). Like Lunardi, Bracketography has Kansas as the top seed in this region, but Florida as the 2 seed.

I don’t know whether or not Louisville has done enough to lock up a 3 seed, but I would love to end up on that line for obvious reasons, with the main one being you avoid the 1 seed until the regional final. In addition, I don’t think Louisville happens to match-up well with Ohio State or Kansas so any way to avoid one of those teams until the fourth game is not a bad thing.

Having said that, we all know to make a deep run in March, you have to beat some good teams. At the end of the day, whether the Cards get a 3 or 4 seed, you lace ‘em up and get after it regardless of the seed.

But I’d still like to get a 3.
