Saturday Night Football Breakdown: Atlanta Falcons vs. Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions come into this game as losers of their last seven games. The first five of those losses came by ten points or less, including three games by four points or less, but last week the Lions got blown out by Arizona. Now the Lions sit at just 4-10 and host the 12-2 Atlanta Falcons. So far this year the Lions are 2-4 at home and the Falcons are 5-2 on the road but have lost two of their last three road games.

Here are some predictions from the Grits Blitz crew:

Kevin: I think the Panthers game woke up the Falcons a bit and they seem to be very focused right now. You have one team, the Falcons, coming off of their best win of the season and you have another coming off of their worst loss. It looks like it could be a classic trap game but I don't think the Falcons will overlook the Lions. I've got the Falcons winning 31-24.

Matt: The Atlanta Falcons should take advantage of the Nick Fairley-less Detroit Lions and rack up points on their 12th ranked defense through a screen-heavy and short pass game between attacking their weak corners deep. Our Jekyll/Hyde defense shouldn't be overwhelmed playing against a floundering Matt Stafford and Detroit's 23rd ranked rushing offense. The Lions are struggling, already out of the playoffs and dealing with team injuries, player problems and general disarray while Atlanta is only fighting their disinterest in winning this game. 27-13 Falcons.

Mike: The Falcons proved last week that they have it within them to utterly dismantle and embarrass a playoff caliber team. The Lions are coming into this game with nothing to play for and nothing to lose, that could prove to be a challenge for these 12-2 Falcons. Calvin Johnson is having a terrific season and should be able to make big plays Saturday night against a Falcons defense that has shown to have struggles against top tier wideouts.... That said, it won’t happen. The Falcons are 1 win away from securing home field advantage. 1 more win. I am a believer in momentum, and the Lions have none. Stafford is a elite quarterback, but with a line as bad as Detroit's, our elite quarterback will outshine the gunslinger. The Falcons should roll to a 27-13 victory.
