New York Mets ace (we use that term loosely these days as we don’t think he’ll ever be what he used to) Johan Santana apparently was accused of some very serious stuff in 2009. TMZ.com reported today that he was accused of sexual battery on a Florida golf course in late October 2009, when the Mets were surely not playing baseball.
The defendant says that they were walking on the golf course together when he “began to kiss her and pull up her top, unclasping her bra.”
The report continues: “Johan began to pull at [the accuser's] skirt/skort and attempt [sic] to place his hands into her underwear.” According to the documents, she “told Johan no multiple times but Johan persisted.”
Then it gets worse. She says that Johan penetrated her, grabbed and bruised her calf, and “ejaculated on her upper thigh.”
She then claims that she “cleaned her thigh with her underwear.” After that, she went with him to a tennis court where she watched him play tennis with someone else.
Seriously? On one hand the claims have some credence because she is very detailed. On the other hand, do rape victims typically hang out and watch their assailant play tennis? We don’t really know the answers, that’s just what was going through our heads.
Santana addressed these claims tonight before their game with the Detroit Tigers.
“I’m aware of the situation,” he read in a prepared statement. “What I can tell you is that police have investigated these claims last year, and I was never charged with anything, and the case is closed. Unfortunately at this time, that’s all I can say. And I have no further comments.”
The New York Mets also commented on all this.
“We’re aware of the situation,” the Mets said in a release. “It’s a personal matter.”
If the case really is closed, then that’s that. It’s over. But these are pretty graphic allegations and we may never know what really happened, if anything did happen.
