As the regular season came to a close, it seemed like a virtual certainty that North Carolina and Kentucky would collide in the National Championship game.
Unfortunately, early in their run to the promise land, the Tar Heels lost a key component in point guard Kendall Marshall to a fractured wrist. That was the beginning of the end. And then two days after barely squeaking out a victory over Ohio on Friday night, they fell in shocking fashion to Kansas on Sunday, 80-67.
Following the game, North Carolina head coach Roy Williams discussed the late run by Kansas that put the game out of reach and Marshall’s impact on his offense.
