Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney limped off of the pitch in the 77th minute of the team’s season-ending 4-0 victory over Stoke. The 24-year old (how is he only 24? He’s been playing forever it seems) aggravated a groin injury just one month before he is to play in the World Cup for England
“I don’t think it is serious—he should be OK for England,” United manager Alex Ferguson said.
Rooney has been bugged by groin and ankle problems for a month or so and it was originally thought that he wouldn’t play the final two matches. But he ended up playing in an attempt to get Manchester United a fourth straight English Premiere title. Didn’t happen.
Rooney, who had 34 goals for Man. U. this season, is absolutely expected to be on the English World Cup team, but it’s not known if he’ll play in friendlies leading up to the global tournament.
