Sources tell Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports that Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger is expected to be given a suspension on Monday or Tuesday of this week. While we don’t know for sure, the suspension is expected to be between 2-4 games.
“Ben understands where this is going and he knows there’s punishment he’ll have to take,” one of the sources close to Roethlisberger said. “He knows how much this hurt the team and the league. He wants to make this right.”
According to Cole’s sources, Big Ben just wants to get this over with and won’t fight the punishment.
Authorities in Georgia decided not to prosecute Ben after recent allegations of rape. They didn’t say he didn’t do it, they just said that they didn’t think they could get a conviction in a court of law.
And while no charges were filed, it’s obvious that Big Ben is losing in the court of public opinion.
“After you read the file and you listen to the player, the only conclusion you can come to is that what he did is unbelievably stupid,” one of the league sources told Cole. “How could he have really thought this was a good idea?”
Stay tuned to see how long he’s suspended. Oh, and draft Dennis Dixon high in your fantasy football leagues.
