When most people thought of what types of things could keep the Minnesota Vikings out of the playoffs, their first thought was probably “Tarvaris Jackson playing QB.” And they’d have been right. But this Sidney Rice issue isn’t far down that list.
Rice has decided to have surgery on his troublesome hip and it looks like that will keep him out about half the season. Jeff Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune and Jason La Canfora of NFL Network both think he’ll return about halfway into the year, but Rotoworld is predicting a return around Thanksgiving.
What do those predictions mean? Absolutely nothing! He’ll be back when he gets back.
Although this is speculation, Zulgad does cover the team and makes an interesting observation, whether it’s an educated guess or otherwise. He thinks Rice’s contract situation led him to get the surgery later rather than sooner. He’s scheduled to make $550,000 this year. Rice, not Zulgad.
We can honestly say that if that’s the case, we don’t really blame him. If you aren’t happy being so underpaid, why get your body beaten to hell when you can just have surgery and sit out?
