Rajon Rondo was suspended by the NBA on Monday for making contact with an official and then “refusing to cooperate” with a league investigation.
For those of you keeping track at home, this is the second time Rondo has been disciplined for some sort of unwanted bodily interaction with a ref.
The play that forced Rondo to sit out the Boston Celtics’ 102-96 victory over the New York Knicks occurred with about three minutes to go in Saturday’s game versus the Atlanta Hawks. In that outing, Rondo collided with Rodney Mott while arguing a call. Nobody seemed to notice it when it happened, however, Hawks GM Danny Ferry apparently reported the incident afterward. He too was ultimately fined, though, for approaching officials after the game in order to bring Rondo’s bump to their attention.
Boston went on to win the game 89-81.
