Boy, this went south quickly, huh? After a Sunday meeting with owner-in-waiting Josh Kroenke in which Carmelo Anthony seemed insistent that he be traded, several sources tell Adrian Wojnarowski (we wish he’d stop breaking stories. It is a pain in the ace to spell his name) of Yahoo! Sports that it’s not if, but when.
Basically, Worldwide Wes went to the Denver Nuggets and said, “here’s a list of teams, get going.”
Wojnarowski says that Sunday’s meeting wasn’t very pleasant or productive. And at this point, it seems like the Nuggets have given up on trying to sign him to an extension.
“It’s almost a given they’re going to move him,” said one front-office executive who has spoken with the Nuggets and Anthony’s agents with CAA.
As for the Nuggets, it’s not just Anthony they are willing to move. Sources tell Wojnarowsk that they’re open to dealing J.R. Smith (really?! Why ever would they do that?!) and Kenyon Martin as well.
In Anthony’s case, they are looking for young players and draft picks in return. This, according to Yahoo, makes the Los Angeles Clippers and New Jersey Nets two of the top teams as they have what Denver wants. Other potential teams include the Warriors, Rockets, Knicks, and maybe even the Bobcats. While everyone is naming random teams, you should also keep an eye on the Timberwolves, Celtics and Redskins.
Bad news for Nuggets fans, it looks like they are going to blow this one up and start over.
