President Obama Wants the NHL Lockout to End

Most American presidents have been sports fans, so Barack Obama isn’t really special in that regard. He does admittedly seem to follow a wider array of teams (we’ve heard him discuss NBA, college hoops, NFL, college football, MLB, etc.) than the others, however, there are certain leagues that even he doesn’t seem to care about. Aside from when he was inviting Stanley Cup winners to the White House, we can’t recall a single instance when the POTUS talked hockey. Ever.

Just because he hasn’t talked it, though, doesn’t mean he isn’t paying attention. During an appearance on Jay Leno’s late night show this past Wednesday, President Obama offered some thoughts on the ongoing NHL lockout.

"You know, I do have a comment on this. Every time these things happen I just want to remind the owners and the players: you guys make money because you got a whole bunch of fans out there who are working really hard. They buy tickets. They're watching on TV. Ya'll should be able to figure this out. Get this done."

Will Obama’s plea for sanity work? Probably not. A good chunk of games are going to be axed today, in fact. But it’s still pretty cool that he cares. Too bad the same can’t be said for most other sports fans.
