Beau Hossler went into this past Sunday tied for eighth place and with a very real chance at being the low amateur at the 2012 U.S. Open. He would eventually lose that distinction to 18-year-old Jordan Spieth after a particularly forgettable back nine, but not before leaving an impression on everyone who saw him compete.
This kid is going to be a star one day – no doubt about it.
For now, though, he has to relinquish low amateur status to Spieth, and he has to understand that the biggest celebrity to come out of this weekend’s run wasn’t him – it was his mom. As tends to be the case at these sort of things (see: the 2012 NFL Draft), certain moms have a strange way of attaining superstar status at various sporting events.
It’s inexplicable, really.
Why has Hossler’s mom, Amy Balsz, been such a hot search item over the last few days? Tough to say…

Maybe it’s because everyone wants to know what it was like for her raising such an impressive son. Yeah, that’s probably what it is.
