New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony has always been recognized as something of a me-first NBA superstar. That’s not a slight against him in any way, it’s just the way he is. Most of the really great scorers in the league fall into the same category. Still, in a year when he allegedly played a role in getting his coach fired and has consistently performed better without any of his fellow superstars around him, it’s sort of funny when things that reaffirm his me-firstness come to light.
During a recent interview with the New York Post about how she redecorated their home, Anthony’s wife, La La, unintentionally provided NBA comedians with additional fodder by taking this picture:
Yes, you’re seeing it correctly – that’s Carmelo in the background. The man has a giant picture of himself hanging on his wall.

For her part, La La isn’t embarrassed about how the artwork comes off. Via that Post article:
Have you recently purchased any artwork? What is your favorite piece?
This past Christmas, we purchased a huge, modern picture of my husband from the artist Paul Gerben, whose studio is located in SoHo. It was great to be directly in touch with the artist himself, which enabled us to create this fantastic, very large and abstract piece that we love.
We love it too, La La. We love it too.
And in case any of Mike D’Antoni’s relatives were looking for a great birthday present idea – you’re welcome.
