It’s almost that time of year, when owners, coaches, general managers, and the rest of the front office lock themselves in a room and heavily debate which players to draft to improve the team. This room is called the “War Room” for a reason. Everyone in this room is heavily opinionated and has become attached to a prospect that they don’t believe the team can do without.
In this segment, we will put ourselves in the war room and go over the picks we believe teams need to make when they’re on the clock. We’ll cover all 32 teams, but today’s segment is dedicated to the: Philadelphia Eagles.
The quarterback position seems to be set for the immediate future in Philadelphia, but don’t be surprised if the Eagles look to pick up a quarterback at some point to sit behind Michael Vick with Kevin Kolb likely gone via trade at some point. The offensive line is the most urgent need on the offensive side of the ball and the Eagles may look at a guard or tackle with their 23rd overall selection. Running back may also be a target at some point to give LeSean McCoy a little help in the backfield.
Defensively, the Eagles need to add to the secondary. Cornerback could be the pick in the first round, while a safety may also be a target at some point. Outside linebacker may be a position the Eagles look at on the second day.
Philadelphia Eagles Mock Draft
Round 1 (#23): Brandon Harris, CB, Miami Hurricanes: Harris is being undervalued in mock drafts. He has first round talent and the Eagles need help at corner.
Round 2 (#54): Benjamin Ijalana, T/G, Villanova Wildcats: The Eagles need help at both guard and tackle, and Ijalana could be considered at either position.
Round 3 (#85): Kendall Hunter, RB, Oklahoma State Sooners: LeSean McCoy is a great back, but there isn’t much depth behind him. These days, it seems every team is doubling up on quality backs.
Round 4 (#104) from Washington Redskins: K.J. Wright, OLB, Mississippi State Bulldogs: Outside linebacker is one of the holes on the Philly defense and the Eagles could actually look for a couple linebackers in this year’s draft.
Round 4 (#120): Jalil Brown, CB, Colorado Buffaloes: Brown is the second corner taken by Philadelphia in this mock draft, as the Eagles look to bolster the secondary.
Round 5 (#149) from San Diego Chargers: Steve Schilling, G, Michigan Wolverines: The Eagles need to draft offensive linemen this year to protect Vick.
Round 5 (#153): Ricky Elmore, DE, Arizona Wildcats: Elmore would play defensive end for the Eagles, as Philadelphia may look to add some depth to the position with several selections in this draft to address some of their more urgent needs.
Round 7 (#227) from Seattle Seahawks: Adrian Moten, OLB, Maryland Terrapins: Moten was a productive player at Maryland and would be an excellent seventh round pick.
Round 7 (#237) compensatory: Pat Devlin, QB, Delaware Fighting Blue Hens: If Kolb is gone, the Eagles may look at a quarterback to serve as a young backup to Vick.
Round 7 (#240) compensatory: Josh Davis, OT, Georgia Bulldogs: This would be a pick to add some depth to the offensive line. The Eagles could go a number of ways with their three seventh round picks as they look for late-round steals and diamonds in the rough, and could also address some ancillary needs.
That’s how it played out in our Mock of the Philadelphia Eagles “War Room”
