I promise you that this will be the last moxie joke or reference I make when discussing Matt McGloin.
We begin the new week knowing exactly who will be the starting quarterback for Penn State in the fall. Much to the chagrin of some, it will be Matt McGloin. This is a decision that was probably expected all along as the spring unfold but it will still be interesting to hear Bill O'Brien sell the decision to fans. Adam Jacobi, Bleacher Report's Big Ten blogger, calls O'Brien Captain Obvious for the decision.
Also, Curtis Drake admitted that he was going to be academically ineligible for the fall. Drake was removed from the roster at the same time McGloin was confirmed to be the number one starter under center.
Penn State held a camp over the weekend, and they made sure to extend an official offer to wide receiver Will Fuller before he left town. Fuller, from Philadelphia's Roman Catholic, also mentioned that Penn State is on the top of his school list. According to Victory Bell Rings, the other leading candidates include Ohio State, Clemson, Notre Dame and Rutgers. A decision could be made in the next two weeks.
Bill O'Brien attended Lafayette College's Lauren's First and Goal camp over the weekend and had some strong messages to send unrelated to Penn State football. The camp raises money for Lauren's First and Goal, a foundation dedicated to raising money for families battling pediatric cancer.
Over the weekend Penn State's rugby team took part in the Collegiate Rugby Championship tournament. Things did not go so well for a team many thought would advance to the championship rounds. A stunning loss to Life University started off the weekend's action. Penn States loss to Wisconsin put the Nittany Lions in the challenger's bracket (aka the loser's bracket). Penn State did beat Temple, but another late loss to Maryland on Sunday ended their weekend action.
Ohio State tight end Jake Stoneburner and offensive lineman Jack Mewhort were arrested over the weekend, and according to The Toledo Blade the two have been suspended indefinitely. The two players are scheduled for arraignment on June 11.
The Big Ten is open to compromise and favors a selection committee for forming a college football playoff. There is no official stance form the Big Ten at this time, but all indications are that the conference will be open to discussing multiple possibilities for the impending playoff details.
