Pacquiao, Arum Already Looking to Fight with Mayweather?

While speaking with the The Sweet Science at the Friars Club in Manhattan on Tuesday, Top Rank head honcho Bob Arum hyped up the coming fight between Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito scheduled for Nov. 13 at Cowboys Stadium.

Arum made it a point to cover a number of topics including, but not limited to: Pacquiao trying to do too much lately, a possible fight with Paul Williams and finally, the only topic anyone cares about – a potential Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather Jr. showdown.

On the topic of Pacquiao being distracted despite the fact he's squaring off against the larger Margarito, Arum had this to say:

"It's Manny Pacquiao," said Arum. "He has the ability to multitask. To deal with a bid to get more money for his province while training for this fight, I can't do it. But I'm older. He seems able to do it. It'd be good if he didn't have the distractions, but that'll never happen."

The Top Rank boss also noted that while Pacquiao will likely be weighing in at around 151 on fight night, he expects that the Filipino superstar will then go down to 147 after the bout.

Arum then discussed the possibility that Pacquiao and Williams may fight if Williams is able to beat Sergio Martinez on November 20. According to the famed promoter, a bout between these two men would be “ludicrous” because of the huge height disparity between them. At 6’1, Williams would no doubt tower above the 5’6 Pacquiao.

The most noteworthy thing that Arum said, however, was that following a Pacquiao win against Margarito, "only one fight has priority, that's Mayweather."

Between the “wishy washy” requests of Mayweather, though, and his current legal troubles the Top Rank leader cautioned against fans getting their hopes up.

Nevertheless, it's good to know that Arum sees this upcoming bout between Margarito and Pacquiao the same way everyone else does - as a warm-up to the eventual Mayweather-Pacquiao showdown.
