Orlando Magic Part Ways with Stan Van Gundy

Publish date:

The Orlando Magic, to nobody's surprise, have parted ways with General Manager Otis Smith and head coach Stan Van Gundy.

The roster is what it is now because of Otis Smith. He tried to appease Dwight Howard by giving Jason Richardson a long-term contract and trading Brandon Bass for Big Baby (then giving HIM a four-year contract). Right now, the Magic don't have much maneuverability because of these signings.

Stan Van Gundy had to go if the Magic wanted to keep Dwight. I don't think this is the right move because the Magic are playing with house money. What if Howard still wanted to leave? Yes, we know he didn't like SVG but we also know he has desires to play at a bigger market. Orlando better hope they're making the right move. It's hard to do better than Stan Van Gundy. After all, he was at the helm when the Magic got their only NBA Finals win in franchise history. The guy can coach.

But you know SVG doesn't really care. He knows he's still living the good life, sipping Diet Pepsi somewhere.

So who wants this Van Gundy as a coach? Heck, who wants Van Gundy as an analyst (PSST, ESPN!!!)?
