Ohio State's Urban Meyer Revokes Arrested Players' Scholarships

Urban Meyer is a smart man. After spending many years taking a beating from pundits who felt like he didn’t discipline his constantly-arrested Florida Gators players enough, Meyer has adopted a new approach at Ohio State.

According to Adam Rittenberg of, Meyer has revoked the scholarships of tight end Jake Stoneburner and offensive tackle Jack Mewhort, both of whom were arrested a few weeks back for public drunkeness and pissing on a golf course.

Meyer stated that “They will have an opportunity to return to the team in good standing following the summer session.” Both players also will have the opportunity to earn their scholarships back.

Stoneburner and Mewhort will both take summer classes and will pay their own way during the summer sessions. They can work out at the team’s facility but not with their teammates during the summer.

In my opinion its a smart move by the new coach. Both players are projected starters this fall so their importance to the team is somewhat significant. They are not All Americans or game-changers, though. If the two players get their act together, great, they get their scholarships back and everyone can move on and focus. If they mess up again, its not that significant of a loss.
