Former second-round pick Mike Nugent did a phenomenal job on Sunday of executing an onside kick to keep the Cincinnati Bengals alive against the Indianapolis Colts. Pierre Garcon botched the recovery and the Bengals got possession.
But that possession looks like it came at quite a cost. Nugent had to be carried off the field with what’s believed to be a serious knee injury to his kicking leg.
“The ball was on its way and I kind of cut back to take a guy and that’s when it happened,” said Nugent, who said the knee went before any contact was made.
At this point, it’s looking like a season-ending ACL and/or MCL tear.
“It doesn’t look good,” Nugent said.
Luckily, the Bengals lost to drop to 2-7 so having a good kicker really isn’t important any longer.
