Even though Nonito Donaire and Toshiaki Nishioka couldn’t match the show that Brandon Rios and Mike Alvarado put on last night, their bout was still pretty interesting in its own right.
There was a case to be made that Nishioka was Donaire’s most legitimate foe to date, and so, the latter fighter’s hesitation and wariness in the early going was pretty justifiable.
In the sixth round, however, Donaire had clearly had enough fun and games. He began to absolutely dominate his counterpart from that point onward – and ultimately he brought the proceedings to a close in the ninth round when Nishioka’s corner decided that he had enough.
Next up for Donaire? Jorge Arce, apparently.
