NFL News: Bengals Trade Chad Ochocinco to Patriots

Publish date:

The New England Patriots aren’t afraid to make trades. That much we know. Earlier, they picked up Albert Haynesworth in a low-risk trade with the Washington Redskins. Apparently, they weren’t done gathering problem children.

They sent a couple of late-round picks to the Principle Champion Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for loquacious WR Chad Ochocinco. Ocho was due $6 million this year in salary, but instead restructured his contract to have a three-year deal with the Pats.

A big reason the Pats got choked out by the New York Jets last year was because they had no one on the outside who could make plays. Their offense was based on TE’s Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez. That’s all well and good, they are nice players, but at some point you need someone other than Deion Branch on the outside.

While Ochocinco can’t stretch the field like he used to, he can still run nasty routes, make great catches and give Tom Brady a bigger target.
