In the latest chapter of The Fight That Never Was, Jeff Mayweather -- uncle of Floyd Mayweather Jr. -- has suggested that he is in talks for a potential super fight between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.
While speaking to the good folks at FightHype, Jeff had this to say regarding the matter:
"I'm negotiating with both sides and it's just a matter now of sending a letter of intent to Manny and one to Floyd through me and see where it can go,”
I know that [Floyd] is talking to Nelson Mandela's daughter because they are trying to put together something for his 93rd birthday [18 July]," he said.
"In the midst of that, they're also trying to make the fight between Floyd and Manny."
What should you take from Jeff’s statements?
Nothing. This, most likely, is just the latest in a long line of useless, pointless comments made by someone who probably could at least make an effort at putting the fight together, but won’t.
It is fun to think about, though. If Jeff managed to set this bout up on Floyd’s end, what excuse do you think Pacquiao would use to get out of fighting a real opponent this time around?
