New England Patriots to Add Dallas Clark?

Publish date:

According to a tweet by's Shalise Manza Young, former Indianapolis Colts tight end Dallas Clark visited with the New England Patriots last Tuesday.

It's pretty questionable move by the Patriots, really, considering the fact that they already have good tight ends on their roster with Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez. What's the need for Clark?

However, Pro Football Talk makes an interesting case for why New England may be interested in the former Pro Bowler:

On Monday, Peter King of characterized the Chiefs as the clubhouse leaders for Clark’s services.  It could be that Chiefs G.M. Scott Pioli’s former boss, Bill Belichick, simply decided that, if Pioli sees something in Clark, maybe there’s something there that could help the Pats.

Clark has been injured for a lot of the past two seasons. Ever since his Pro Bowl year in 2009 when he had 100 catches for over 1,000 yards along with 10 touchdowns, actually. He hasn't been the same since.

The Patriots could probablyuse him as a good, serviceable back-up.

What do you think? Should the Pats sign him? Will they?
