NBA: Nets Close to Getting Carmelo Anthony...Again?

Honestly, I’m tired of typing these stupid rumors. We pass along rumors on big stories all the time, but this is getting out of hand. It seems that once every so many weeks, we hear about the New Jersey Nets getting close to trading for Carmelo Anthony.

Now, we are told that it’s really close this time. For real. We mean it.

Sources close to the situation tell Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports that the Nets are “real close” to landing Anthony.

“It’s real close,” a source told Yahoo!, just like we just told you they did.

Supposedly, Anthony will sign an extension with the Nets if they are able to get Rip Hamilton from the Detroit Pistons. Sources said that that deal is close to completion.

I’ll let Wojnarowski tell you about the proposed ‘Melo trade:

The proposed trade will send Anthony, Hamilton, Chauncey Billups(notes), Nuggets guard Anthony Carter(notes) and forward Shelden Williams(notes) to the Nets. The Nuggets will receive two first-round picks from the Nets, point guard Devin Harris(notes), rookie forward Derrick Favors(notes), guards Anthony Morrow(notes), Ben Uzoh(notes), Stephen Graham(notes) and Quinton Ross(notes). The Pistons will get Murphy and Petro.

One front office executive told Yahoo that ‘Melo would sign a three-year, $65 million extension with the Nets if they get Hamilton.

“He wants to play with Rip,” the source said.

This is the same extension that is on the table from the Denver Nuggets. Anthony has been disinterested with that deal since the summer time. It’s obviously not about money at this point, he wants to play elsewhere.
