The Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns are all reportedly interested in signing free agent shooting guard, O.J. Mayo.
Last year, through 66 games with the Memphis Grizzlies, Mayo averaged 13 points on 41 percent shooting. He also shot 36 percent from behind the arc.
While his numbers are solid and Mayo has unquestionably proven himself to be a capable player over his four years in the league, there is also no denying that he hasn’t been as impactful over his last two seasons as he was in his first two.
Part of that has to do with the fact that he was relegated to coming off the bench over these past two years, obviously. But, it is worth mentioning that there is a reason he was relegated to coming off the bench.
Even with his notable flaws taken into account, given what’s out there right now, Mayo is currently one of the top two shooting guards available. And because he’s one of the top two shooting guards available, the former USC standout is getting interest from some very solid squads.
As reported on Saturday night by Marc J. Spears:
Free agent G OJ Mayo getting interest from Lakers, Chicago, Phoenix and Dallas and hopes to make decision in next 10 days, source tells Y!

Seeing as the New Orleans Hornets matched the offer sheet they gave Eric Gordon, Phoenix now has both the cap space and desire to add a quality two guard like Mayo. In fact, it was thought that they might actually be the favorites to nab him at this point; however, the latest word is that perhaps his price tag is a little too rich even for the Suns. Via John Gambadoro:
OJ Mayo came to town but Suns made no contract offer. He wants 8 mill + a year and for Phx to be interested that price has to come down.

The Lakers would love to add Mayo to their awful bench, but they lack the funds to do so. The only way L.A. gets him is via sign-and-trade – which is unlikely. Similarly, the Bulls figure to be longshots as well. Dallas, on the flip side, very well could be in the running for Mayo’s services if they choose to go that route.
At the moment, Mayo ultimate destination in order of likelihood would probably be: 1.) Suns, 2.) Mavericks, 3.) Lakers and 4.) Bulls.
