NBA Rumors: Nets to Extend Gerald Wallace; Deal with Hawks on Horizon?

Publish date:

The New York Post has reported that Gerald Wallace has agreed to an extension with the Brooklyn Nets. A deal worth $40 million in four years.

The Nets have been active ever since free agency started (or even before that). They're trying to extend Deron Williams. They've been trying to get Dwight Howard. And they have back-up plans just in case Howard doesn't go to Brooklyn. Billy King has also been trying to acquire Joe Johnson from the Atlanta Hawks. And they've also been in talks with O.J. Mayo.

But while I like Gerald Wallace, I think this contract is a bit too much for him. Happy for Wallace, yes, but this kind of deal is the kind that takes away flexibility in the future; especially if the Nets turn out to be a poor team in two or three years.

The Nets better hope they keep Deron and get a nice crew surrounding him.
