NBA Rumors: Lakers’ Steve Nash, Chris Kaman Already Injured?

Steve Nash is 39 years old, so it’s understandable why he would be more susceptible to injuries now than when he was with the Phoenix Suns. The mileage on his tires combined with some bad luck culminated in him missing 32 games last year. Seeing as the Los Angeles Lakers brought him in to run the offense, and then proceeded to hire a head coach for the sole reason that he knew how to optimize Nash’s strengths and minimize his weaknesses, the franchise endured something of a disappointing campaign in 2012-13.

This year, knock on wood, things will be different. Or so we hoped, until the injuries started piling up again.

Kobe Bryant is still recovering from his ruptured Achilles. Jordan Farmar is out with a calf strain. Steve Nash’s ankle is hurt. Chris Kaman didn’t practice yesterday.

Whereas last year L.A. had a ton of talent and just couldn’t get healthy, this year the team doesn’t even have all that much talent. What does that mean? It means that there is no room for error. Guys can’t get hurt – plain and simple.

Fortunately, it appears as though Nash’s and Kaman’s problems aren’t serious. As reported by Mike Trudell:

D’Antoni: Chris Kaman didn’t practice due to a stomach virus; Steve Nash practiced but left early due to the same condition.

The Lakers’ next preseason game will be on Tuesday when they take on the Utah Jazz at Staples.
