NBA Rumors: Lakers, Magic Meeting Regarding Possible Dwight Howard Trade

The Los Angeles Lakers have not given up on trying to find new and creative ways to acquire Dwight Howard.

Over the past two weeks, Mitch Kupchak has reviewed a number of scenarios that would ultimately dispatch Andrew Bynum elsewhere and land Howard in purple and gold.

Up to this point, obviously, he’s been unsuccessful in actually making it happen.

L.A.’s latest and most notable attempt to land Howard’s services involved them potentially doing a three-team deal with the Orlando Magic and Cleveland Cavaliers. That trade, according to multiple reports, would have ended with Bynum in Cleveland, Howard in Los Angeles and Orlando with a ton of cap space and future draft picks.

As of Monday afternoon, though – that transaction was no longer a viable option.

At some point today, according to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports, the Lakers and Magic will sit down and try to iron out an agreement that would result in both teams getting what they need. Via Spears:

Rockets currently do not have a meeting set up with the Magic in regards to landing Dwight Howard, source tells Y! Sports.

Right now, the biggest problem for L.A. is that they don’t have anything Orlando brass wants. The Magic want cap space and draft picks – not Bynum. Barring something changing on that end, it’s hard to envision a deal getting worked out.

Never say never, though.

Stay tuned.
