The Los Angeles Lakers have to trade Pau Gasol at this point. If his feelings were hurt at the prospect of being shipped out for Chris Paul, possibly the best point guard in the NBA, then all of this talk about him getting moved for top-10 draft picks must be really insulting.
Thus far, Gasol has been up there with Deron Williams, Dwight Howard and Steve Nash as the names most frequently mentioned in various trade proposals. Up to this point, nothing realistic has popped up – but the frequency of various rumors bubbling to the surface has increased noticeably over the last couple of days.
Despite the fact that Jim Buss came out not too long ago and said that L.A. wouldn’t move Gasol before the start of next year, already, just in the last 24 hours, we’ve heard about potential deals that would send him to Washington, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Memphis and a myriad of other far off locations.
The Los Angeles Lakers have been checking around the league this week to gauge Pau Gasol's trade value, according to sources briefed on the discussions.
Sources told ESPN.com that the Lakers have been contacting teams in an effort to acquire a top-10 pick in Thursday's draft. The Lakers also are seeking an established player along with the pick if they're to part with Gasol.
The Charlotte Bobcats, Washington Wizards, Toronto Raptors and New Orleans Hornets (with their No. 10 pick) are all rumored to be squads who wouldn’t be opposed to trading away a selection – but none of those teams have established players that L.A. would be interested in.
Stay tuned – the rumors are heating up.
