NBA Rumors: Lakers to Add Grant Hill or Jodie Meeks?

Grant Hill or Jodie Meeks coming to town probably won’t make the same sort of splash among Lakers fans that Steve Nash’s acquisition did.

In the aftermath of Mitch Kupchak masterfully patching up L.A.’s biggest hole less than a week into free agency, a lot of people have been speculating about what the follow-up move will be.

As you would expect, Dwight Howard is the guy whose name is most frequently discussed; however, it’s worth noting that there is a reason the deal hasn’t been made yet. Be it Howard’s back, or be it his unwillingness to sign an extension, or be it something else entirely – there is a reason that he isn’t a Laker yet.

That's a discussion for a different day, though.

Regardless of what ultimately ends up happening with Howard, L.A. still has other tweaks that it needs to make. The Nash acquisition was brilliant in every possible way, but it doesn’t address the lack of depth on this roster.

The glaring lack of depth.

In an effort to address that problem, the Lakers are reportedly looking at a pair of players who may be able to do some stuff off the bench.

The first, as per Alex Kennedy of HoopsWorld:

The Los Angeles Lakers have expressed interest in unrestricted free agent Jodie Meeks, according to sources close to the situation.

Meeks, 24, put up eight points on 41 percent shooting for the Philadelphia 76ers last year. He’s also a 37 percent three point shooter for his career. He could theoretically provide a nice little punch for L.A. when Kobe Bryant is off the court.

And then there is Grant Hill. Via  Frank Isola of the New York Daily News:

Grant Hill will either join Steve Nash and the Lakers or retire, a source close to the veteran forward told me.

At 39 years old, Hill is obviously about a year or so away from retirement. Still, as he showed with his 10.2 points per game on 45 percent shooting last year, he can be a valuable contributor in 25-28 minute spurts.

No matter what happens with Howard, the Lakers will make one more move this summer. It’ll be interesting to see what that move is.
