NBA Rumors: Jamal Crawford to 76ers, Celtics, Hawks or Timberwolves?

Over the last few years, there haven’t been many NBA players quite like Jamal Crawford.

In a weird way, over the course of his career, the former 6th Man of the Year has epitomized both the highs and lows of being a lights out scorer who can’t really do much beyond that.

The highs have been obvious: he’s scored 50 or more points with three different teams, he’s constantly sought-after by franchises in need of offensive boosts and he’s gotten the opportunity to play for at least one legit winner.

The downside, however, is that despite his clear-cut, inarguable talent, he has never been a difference-maker. A guy who has accomplished something that only Wilt Chamberlain, Bernard King and Moses Malone had done previously should have, in theory at least, been able to do more with his career than what Crawford has ultimately done.

It is what it is, though.

After an unmemorable run with the Portland Trail Blazers, Crawford is now preparing to either be traded by or opt out on June 29. His next team will be his sixth in 12 years.

His potential suitors? There are quite a few of them. As reported by Chris Haynes:

The Portland Trail Blazers are fielding trade offers for guard Jamal Crawford and the Philadelphia 76ers, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Boston Celtics are among the teams actively pursuing the scoring specialist intensely, a league source tells

Beyond that, there was previously some talk about Crawford perhaps landing back with his old team – the Atlanta Hawks. Via Sam Amico of Fox Sports.

Don’t be surprised if the Hawks make a run at former Sixth Man of the Year Jamal Crawford, who spent the past season with the Trail Blazers. Ray Allen (Celtics) and Alonzo Gee (Cavs) are also said to be on their radar.

Minnesota was expected to target a two-guard in the 2012 NBA Draft before they gave that pick away, so Crawford could fill a hole for them. The Sixers and Hawks also make a certain amount of sense. Boston, however, doesn’t seem like a legitimate option; why would a team in rebuilding mode need an aging, one-dimensional veteran?

We’ll find out what’s what with Crawford’s situation within the next couple of days.
