NBA Rumors: If Ray Allen Doesn’t Stay with Celtics, He’ll Go with Clippers, Heat or Knicks?

Even though he’s coming off one of his worst seasons in recent memory, Ray Allen is still a very hot commodity in the NBA. According to various reports, the Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat and New York Knicks all have an interest in bringing on board – presuming he doesn’t re-sign with the Boston Celtics, of course.

Widely regarded as probably the greatest shooter in league history, Allen will enter next season as a 37-year-old wing (in a league dominated by athletic wings) coming off his worst scoring output since his 1996-97 campaign. His field goal percentage was also at its lowest point since 2007-08, for whatever that's worth.

In theory, all of that should lower Allen's stock value a bit, right?

Not exactly.

As noted by ESPN’s Jared Zwerling:

If the Celtics don't pan out for Allen, Sports Illustrated's NBA writer Chris Mannix was told that the Knicks and Heat are at the top of his list. But a source very familiar with Allen's situation told that the Heat, as well as potentially the Clippers, will be more attractive to the five-time All-Star in the offseason because they're top teams that can offer more than the veteran's minimum of $1.4 million. That will likely be the Knicks' spending limit for free agents.

The general consensus seems to be that Boston is done with Allen. Whereas there are some opposing views on whether they will or won’t retain Kevin Garnett, everyone appears to be in unison on Allen’s status – he’s done with the Celtics.

That should make for some very interesting storylines this summer.

Previously, Allen's name has also been linked to the Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers and Memphis Grizzlies.

(Kudos ESPN)
