Jeff Green re-signs with the Boston Celtics for 4 years, $36 million. For a guy that didn't play last season and is coming off heart surgery, that's quite a bit of cash. I will never blame a player for trying to get his money but good grief.
I assume Green is going to come off the bench with Paul Pierce, Brandon Bass, and Kevin Garnett starting at the frontcourt. That is an awfully expensive back-up.
Green does provide youth and athleticism for an old Celtics team that is, once again, going for it all. He doesn't particularly do anything too well but he'll be more familiar with Doc Rivers' system this time around. Still, I feel he brings a lot more questions than answers to this Celtic team. Wasn't Kendrick Perkins traded (which fudged the Celtics line-up into the line-up that it is today) because they didn't want to set aside money for him? Then what about this signing?!
I suppose Jeff Green will represent part of the future core of the Celtics with the long deal. I hope he does well but right now (like many others), I just have a hard time justifying the cost of the contract.
