Nathan Cleverly defended his WBO light heavyweight title with a comprehensive unanimous points decision over Tommy Karpency in front of a partisan Cardiff crowd.
The Welshman was rarely troubled and despite recording three ringside scores of 120-108, there will be those who would have expected the undefeated champion to have ended the fight within the distance.
As early as the opening two sessions, it was quickly clear that the unheralded American visitor had entered survival mode and the only question for the undefeated 25 year-old was whether he could convert his constant pressure into a stoppage.
The Cleverly team will now turn their thoughts to negotiating a deal to bring American WBC champion Bernard Hopkins to Cardiff for a unification battle in the summer. The Philadelphian faces a rematch with Chad Dawson on April 28.
Elsewhere, in Stuttgart, Alexander Povetkin clung onto his WBA heavyweight title with a hard fought points win over Marco Huck- the current WBO cruiserweight king.
Huck (34-2), who surrendered 20 pounds in weight to the unbeaten Russian, appeared to rock his more illustrious opponent on several occasions before slipping to a majority decision defeat.
