Nate Marquardt vs. Georges St-Pierre: Is a Match-Up Inevitable?

Nate Marquardt just picked up the Strikeforce welterweight title, but he has wasted little time in proclaiming his stance in the division. Marquardt earned the vacant title with a knockout victory over Tyron Woodley at Strikeforce: Rockhold Vs. Kennedy this past weekend.

Marquardt, who is a frequent training partner of UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, said it would be great if the two friends were paired to decide the best in the division. GSP is currently rehabbing a knee injury, and is slated to fight to unify the UFC titles with Carlos Condit later this year.

"You got to believe you are the best if you are the fighter," said Marquardt, while appearing on The MMA Hour recently. "If you don't believe you're the best, then why are you doing it? I got to believe that, and of course I believe I am better than everyone else. It's not a shot at Georges, personally. You know, we have talked about it, but we will have to cross that bridge when we get there."

So, it appears that the Greg Jackson-trained fighters are becoming more and more aware of future meetings with each other. Of course, a GSP-Marquardt contest is well down the road.
